After this painting was finished it occurred to me that it could be hanging in a 1950s office suite. I never begin a painting thinking it will be this or that. But after I am done I muse over it and often a title comes to me through an association of some event in my life.
While in High school I painted small Cubist watercolors and peddled them in office buildings downtown. They sold quite well but I always suspected that they bought more out of pity than appreciation. Much to my amazement many years later I encountered some one I had sold a watercolor to and he told me “I still have that piece you sold me at my office and it still hangs there. Everyone always responds positively to it.”
